2009–2010: Romans - HIStory
This year Simon Ponsonby has been exploring Paul's letter to the Romans. No other book of the Bible, with the possible exception of the Gospels, has shaped lives, the Church and even the course of history, as has Romans.
Martin Luther, whose study of Romans led to a personal revival and a European Reformation, splitting the Western church and returning Protestants to a Biblical foundation, wrote in the preface to his commentary on Romans:
"This Epistle is really the chief part of the New Testament and the very purest gospel, and is worthy not only that every Christian should know it word for word, by heart, but occupy himself with it every day as the daily bread of the soul. It can never be read or pondered too much, and the more it is dealt with, the more precious it becomes and the better it tastes." Please note that future School of Theology lectures are postponed until further notice - we hope to have more information on this soon. (May 2010)
