Nick and Kate Wooding, Uganda

Profile

The Woodings are based in Kampala, where Nick is Acting Vice Chancellor of the International Health Science University. The university trains - among others - Southern Sudanese health workers who have come to Uganda since it is not currently possible to do ongoing training in some areas of Sudan. IHSU seeks to bring integrity and values into all areas of work.

Kate works in Kampala Diocese as a children's church leaders for 11-14s at St Stephen's Kisugu, Church of Uganda (where the family attends and Nick and Kate have preached). She is a Board member of a local primary school which is solely for orphans who are living in the nearby slum. She is involved in listening to them read English and leads Christian assemblies. On a regular basis she is assisting a Clinic Administrator in a local community clinic.

Bishop Zac Niringiye (Assistant Bishop of Kampala and former CMS Africa Director) invited them to come and work with Kampala Diocese. The university is based within Kampala Diocese and is on the top floor of IHK (International Hospital Kampala).
The Woodings were previously St Aldates Mission Partners in Uganda at Kiwoko Hospital from 1997-2003. Following their time there, Nick had a book published about his experiences: There is a Snake in my Cupboard: the Continuing Story of Kiwoko Hospital. During the intervening years back in the UK, Nick completed an MSc in Public Health and Kate completed an MA in Humanitarian and Development Practice, featuring a dissertation based at Kiwoko, researching the children there who were had to take HIV medicines every day.

Kate and Nick have two children, Ben and Anna. They are both doing well and attend an international day school studying the International Baccalaureate curriculum.

Prayer requests
- Health and safety for us all as we travel on a daily basis
- Kate’s work role to be more clearly established
- Nick to know what to get involved in outside the university
- Ben and Anna to continue to enjoy school and develop their friendships
