6pm
Early evening services at St Aldates
Welcome to the St Aldates 6pm evening service and if you are hungry for God - we encourage you to join us. Each week we gather for vibrant worship, biblical teaching and ministry. Our aim is to encounter God together and be changed through the preaching of the Word in order that we might be agents for change in our homes, work situations and wider communities. All are welcome and we look forward to meeting you soon!
We celebrate communion each fortnight (alternating with the 10.30am service). Services are led by our clergy and full-time ministry leaders, we also have a prayer ministry team available for anyone who would like to receive prayer. We do not offer childcare at the 6pm service, but the Oak Room is available for parents with babies to use if you need a quiet place during the service. The Aisle Supervisors and Stewards will be able to direct you to the Oak Room if you need to use this facility.
Teaching
God is present to us - are we present to God? English poet, John Donne, once observed: I throw myself down in my chamber, and I call in and invite God and his angels thither, and when they are there, I neglect God and his angels, for the noise of a fly, for the rattling of a coach, for the whining of a door. Donne knew what it was for God to be present to him, but for him to be distracted from God. If were honest, that is often true of us we are so easily drawn away from him. Mary and Martha experienced the presence of Jesus in their midst but Martha busied herself whilst Mary buried herself in Jesus. Jesus was present to both Mary and Martha, but only Mary was present to Jesus.
If you would like to hear sermons from this or any other service you can download and listen to them here.
